THE KING OF INSTRUMENTS. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I am surprised that Mr. J tide's letter in your issue of yesterday has not elicited a response—or rather numerous responses—from the Auckland public. The suggestion he throws out is an excellent one, and certainly ' subscriptions could not be solicited for a more laudable object : and I have no doubt were the project taken in hand by an influential body of citizens " the people would be ready with their shillings. Mr. Jude, with his characteristic generosity, to which we are becoming accustomed, offers his invaluable advice arid aid, and probably might be induced to perform for the benefit of the object in view s6 as to raise the nucleus of the fund, if a commencement were made at once. It were a thousand pities if we let slip such a favourable opportunity for the initiation of the scheme. I leave it to those better able to point out (if necessary) what a boon " Ye People's Organ " would be to a community claiming to be musical, bub I do hope and trust this idea which Mr. Jude has given shape to will not be allowed to drop.—l am, etc., Bourdon". TO THE EDITOR. Sir,lt was with feelings of great pleasure that I read Mr. Jude's letter in your issue of the 2nd instant. I think the kind suggestion thrown out by him, a very good one— the organ should belong to, and be subscribed for, by the people—and one that is worthy of our early and best consideration. Ther« are many towns in the colonies of far less Eretensions than ours which have their town all and organ. We have neither, I regret to say. I see no objection to getting the organ first, and arrangements would soon be made to find a place' for it in the meantime. Trusting that some of our leading citizens will take, the matter up.—l am, &c. Progress-
