THE V.R.C. MEETING.

ETRA-WEENIE WINS THE OAKS. Prtss Association.-Electrie TeUaravh.—CopyriuM.

Melbourne, November 3. The V.R.C. meeting was continued to-day. Beautiful weather prevailed, and there was a large attendance, especially of ladies. His Excellency the Governor and suite were present. The lawn iu front of the stand was roped off, as it had been completely ruined by the traffic on Tuesday. The paddock was covered with tan, but was still very soft.

The start for the Flying Stakes was one ot the worst ever seen at Flemington. Paris did not display his usual brilliancy. The last six furlongs were run in lm. 145., and Bungebah's performance was in marked contrast to his inglorious exhibition in the Caulfield Stakes. By the time the Oaks came up for decision, the attendance had assumed large proportions. The last six furlongs of this race were travelled in lm. 15s. Merrigal's performancejn the Hurdle Race was very strong, and it was evident tha« he could have run over the field at any portion of the journey. Titan's victory in the Spring Handicap was received with great cheering from all parts of the course. Pygmalion was injured by his fall in the Spring Handicap, and Singapore was brought iu with extreme difficulty. La Tosca, Paris, Meli, and Candour each had 71b penalty in the Royal Park Stakes. The following are the results of the racing:— The Flying Stakes, a sweepstakes of ssovs each, with 300sovs added. The owner of the second horse to receive COsova, and the owner of the third 30sovb out of the .stake. For two-year-olds and upwards. Weight-for-age. Seven furlongs. Mr. J. Northern's ch g Bungebah, aged, by Grandmaster— Sst 111b (Gainsford) 1 Mr. J. Monaghan ns b g Paris, syrs, Sst 111b (Parker) 2 Mr. J. B. Clark's br c Autonomy, 3yrs, Sst (Huxley) 3 The other starters were: Calculus, The Captain, JunaDimica, The Dauphine, Salutation, Fairfield, and Meg. Betting : sto 2 agst Bungebah and Autonomy, 6 to 1 Paris. The start was a wretched one, Fairfield and Meg being left at the post, and the others troing off in Indian file. When fairly in their stride, Bungebah, Paris, and Autonomy singled themselves out, but the result was never in doubt, Bungebah winning by a neck; Autonomy, four lengths away, third ; The Captain fourth, and Meg fifth. Time, lm. 27*8. The Oaks Stakes, a sweepstakes of 25sovs each, sft, with SOOsovs added. The owner of the second horse to receive lOOsovs, and the owner of third 50sovs out of the stake. For three-year-old fillies, Sst 10lb. One mile and a-half. Mr. H. Power's br f Etra-Weenie, by Trenton— (Moore) 1 Mr. J. B. Clark's br 1 Trieste, by Chester Tempe (Huxley) ■ • ... 2 Mr. R. M. Turner's b f Insomnia, by Robinson Crusoe—Nightmare (Lewis)... 3 Urith and Gaillardia also ran. Betting : 2 to 1 on Trieste, 4 to 1 against Insomnia, 6 to 1 Etra-Weenie. Gaillardia played up at the post, and when the flag fell, Insomnia rushed away with the lead, followed by EtraWeenie, with Trieste and Gaillardia last. The order was not changed until near the home turn, where the favourite closed on the leaders, and Insomnia fell away beaten. Etra-Weenie maintained her lead into the straight, but here a great struggle took place betweeu her and Trieste, both being locked together for a furlong and a-half. EtraWeenie, however, always held a slight advantage, and finishing with wonderful gameness, secured the verdict by half a length ; Insomnia, six lengths away, third, followed by Urith and Gaillardia. Time, 2in. 43$s. A protest was immediately lodged by the owner of Trieste against the winner, on the grounds of interference, but after a prolonged hearing, it was dismissed by the stewards.

The Second Hurdle Race, a handicap sweepstakes of 6sovs. each, with SOOsovs. added. The owner of the second horse to receive 60 sovs, and the owner of the third 30sovs out of the stake. About two miles. Mr. H. A. Bellamy ns br m Pingara, aged, by Wellington, lOst 111b (Bourke) ... 1 Mr. M. O'Loughlin's bl g Cumberoona, lOst 31b (J. Brewer) 2 Blyth, 9st 51b (Hiscutt) 3 ' Fourteen horses started. Betting :4to 1 against Blyth, 5 to 1 Cumberoona, 6 to 1 Josephine, 10 to 1 Pingara. •■ Merrigal got away first, but fell away again, and was last to negotiate the first obstacle, after which he drew back half-a-dozen lengths behind the nearest of his field. Pacific, Impostor, and Wairua held first place until five furlongs from home, where Wairua fell. As the field approached the home turn Pingara ran into first place, winning all out by half-a-length, Blyth a length behind Cumberoona ; then followed Escort and Merrigal, who, running wide out, made up the lee-way in the last half-mile. Time, 3m. 54is. The Spring Handicap, a sweepstakes of ssovs each, lft., with 40050v3 added, the owner of the second horse to receive SOsovs, and the owner of the third 40sovs out of the stake. For three-year-olds and upwards. One mile and a-quarter. Hon. D. S. Wallace's ch g Titan, oyrs, by Chester—Tempe, Sst lib (Hayes) ... 1 Mr. M. O'Shanassy's blk h Swordbearer, syrs, 7st 91b (Maybin) ... ; 2 Mr". W. T. Jones' ch h Gresford, Byrs, Bst 41b(Anwin) 3 Sixteen horses started. Betting : 7 to 2 against Chatham, 6 to 1 Swordbearer, 10 to 1 Lnuc, Pygmalion, and Titan. This was another wretched start, Chatham getting lengths the best of it, whilst Pygmalion was left at the post. Chatham led right round to j the entrance to the straight, followed by Swordbearer, Gresford, and Enuc. Once fairly in the straight, Swordbearer put in his claim, his stable companion, Singapore, who was in the rear, falling, and bringing down Pygmalion, who was coming fast. Swordbearer continued in the lead until a furlong from the winning-post, when Titan came at him like a bull-dog, and fairly worrying him down, won by two lengths, the same distance separating the second and third horses, Chatham fourth, Enuc fifth. Time, 2m 10s. The last six furlongs were run in lm 16J«. The Royal Park Stakes, a sweepstakes of ssovs each, 1 ft., with 400sovs added. The owner of the second horse to receive SOsovs and the owner of the third 40sovs out of the stake. For three-year-olds and upwards. Weight-for-age, with penalties and allowances. One mile and a-half. Mr. J. B. Clark b c Donation, 3yrs, by Martini-Henry—Charity, 7st 91b (Huxley) 1 Mr. J. Monaghan ns b g Paris, syrs, 9st 61b, including 71b penalty (Parker) ... 2 ' Mr. J. Redfearn's b h Malvolio, 6yrs, 9st 51b (Redfearn) ... 3 There also started :—LaTosca, Meli, Azim, and Candour. Betting :2to 1 against Paris, 7 to 2 Meli, 4 to 1 Malvolio, 8 to 1 Donation. Meli was the pacemaker, followed by Donation, La Tosca, Paris, and Malvolio. At the abattoirs Meli still led. with Malvolio next, and Azim, Paris, and Donation following. On entering the straight Paris shot to the front, closely followed by Donation, who closed with him at the distance post, both coming along together until a hundred yards from home, when Paris stumbled and suffered defeat by a length, Malvolio three lengths behind Paris; then Azim, Meli, Candour, and La Tosca in the order named. Time, 2m. 40s. The last six furlongs were run in lm. 15£s. The Veteran Stakes, a handicap sweepstakes of ssovs each, with 300sovs added, the owner of the second horse to receive 60sovs, and the owner of the third 30sovs out of the stake. For four-years-old and upwards. One mile and a-half. Mr. W. T. Jones' b m Litigant, syrs, by Martini-Henry—Leonie, 7st 101b (Robson) 1 Mr. J.Scobie ns ch h Goldreef, syrs, 7st 131b(Anwin) ... . v 2 Mr. J. O'Loughlan nschh Clonard, 6yrs, Bst 71b (Harris) 3 Fourteen horses started. Betting : 5 to 2 against Clonard, 4 to 1 Hopetoun, 6 to 1 G'Naroo, 10 to 1 Litigant. Swing was first away, Litigant and Clonard being in the extreme rear until six furlongs from home, when Clonard worked his way through the field, looking all over a winner until half a-furlong from home, when Litigant came with a great rush, winning by a length and a-half, a length separating Goldreef and Clonard, with Deerswood fourth and Little Bernie fifth. Time, 2m. 375. Tirailleur, it turns out, fractured his shoulder when he stumbled in the Cup Race, but Allen entertains hopes of bringing him round. Portsea's injury was confined to the straining of the muscles, whilst Pilot Boy got off with nothing worse than a severe shakingCamoola's saddle split in half during the race for the Cup,
