OTAHUHU TROTTING CLUB'S SPRING MEETING.

The Otahuhu Trotting Club wa3 especially favoured in the magnificent weather that prevailed on Saturday afternoon for their Spring Meeting, which was held at Potter's Paddock. The day was bright, pleasant, and warm, with a refreshing breeze, and during the afternoon quite a large concourse assembled to witness the various interesting trotting and pony events set down on the programme. With the exception of delays, which seemed inevitable in carrying out the programme, the management was good, and to this in a great measure is due the fact that there was not a singlo protest, dispute, or hitch during the whole of the afternoon's proceedings ; and the handicaps made by Mr. E. D. Halstead were so good, and the winners so well concealed, that each event was very open, the result being that large numbers of the horses entered were backed on the totalisator. Mr. A. R. Harris officiated as judge, Mr. F. W. Marks clerk of the scales, Mr. T. A. Brown clerk of the course, Mr. E. D. Halstead starter, Mr. James Cooke timekeeper, and Mr. W. L. Lockhart performed the multifarious duties of his office as secretary and general manager to the satisfaction of all. In addition to the judge a number of the _ stewards rendered good service _ by stationing themselves at different positions on the course to watch the trotting races, and see that any horse breaking was fairly pulled up. The totalisators were worked [ conjointly on 103 tickets by Mr. Blomfield and his assistants, aud the total amount put through during the afternoon was £1523 10s. A force of constables under the charge of Sergeant Bernard rendered good assistance to the officers in clearing the course and maintaining order. A feature of the afternoon was an exhibition of trotting in harness, given by Mr. Mangan's imported stallion Imperious, bred in California. He is a splendid animal, and his free, fine action was greatly admired, Mr. Edwards driving him in finished style. Mr. G. S. Budge also exhibited his young imported trotting horse Albert Victor, a colt about 20 months old. He is a handsome bay, finely proportioned, and has very fust and pretty action. But there was 110 finer exhibition of trotting during the afternoon than that by Mr. Brewer's grand tjelding Rarus in the Two and a-half Mile Harness event, when, starting at scratch, the others having 45 to 70s. start, lie cut them all down in the second mile, and finished the last three-quarters in the lead at his leisure, none of the others being able to push him. The following are the results of the various events :— Maiden Trot Handicap, of -lOsovs : Second horse to receive Osovs. from the stake.
