The ASSOCIATION'S REPORTS contain fuller particulars of its PROGRESS, POSITION, and PROSPECTS than hare ever been required by Legislation in any part of the world. WILLIAM T. J. BELL, SECRETARY. QGVERNMENT LIFE INBURANCB DEPARTMENT. Lowest Premiums. State Guarantee. Participation in Profits. Present Accumulated Fund mearl* £2,000,000. Annuel income exceeds £380,000 Cash Surplus in 1890 £232,000. (last distribution). THE Rates of Premiums now in force in this Office are lower than those charged to participating Policy-holders by any other Office doing business in the Australasian Colonies. It is nevertheless anticipated that, owing to cheap management and light mortality, very handsome bonuses will become payable to Policy-holders insuring under existing rates. That this is not a mere estimate may be judged from the fact that no less than £232,000 of CASH SURPLUS, or nearly 1+ per cent, ot the whole accumulated fund at that date, was found to have accrued during the quinquennium ended the 31st December, 1890. Of this amount £200,000 was divided, and the balance carried to reserve. All Participating Policies are entitled, on becora- - ing claims, to Prospective Bonus in accordance with the amount of premiums paid since preceding distribution. Thus, the advantages of an annual distribution are secured without the heavy cost attaching thereto. J. H. RICHARDSON, 93 Commissioner. Political. RATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NEW ZEALAND, AUCKLAND DISTRICT. The Council invoke the patriotism of the people of New Zealand, in order to secure their zealous assistance in bringing into active operation through out the colony a network of institutions co-operat-ing for the accomplishment of objects deeply affecting the general well-being. The direction of recent legislation and of that foreshadowed, is alarming enough to rouse the attention of all those who pretend to a concern for the public welfare. The Council hope for hearty help and sympathy from all true colonists, and trust they will sink minor differences, and combine for the National good. The Objects op the Association are : 1. To create a national sentiment; and to form into one solid body all those who object to socialistic legislation. 2. To promote reforms, economic, legislative, and constitutional; to protest against) undue interference with the rights and liberties of the subject ; and to oppose class legislation. S. To protest against any alteration of the land laws that tends towards the destruction ' of freeholds, and.to encourage bona-iida settlement. ... i, To show the fallacy of the principle that labour and capital are antagonistic ; and to prove to the working man that his worst enemy is the agitator, who uses him only as a stepping stone to political power. 5. To secure prosperity and confidence, by op. posing all experimental legislation, which tends to check the legitimate use of capital, causing it to be locked up or withdrawn from the country, to the detriment of employer and employee. 6. To promote agricultural, mining, commercial and manufacturing enterprise by removing all unnecessary obstacles to their develop, ment 7. To show the unfairness of laws so framed, that the industrious and thrifty are hampered, and put on a level with the lazy and thriftless. 8. To promote sound political economy; and to educate public opinion in the right direction, by disseminating literature giving sound reasons and , arguments for our beliefs. 9. To register all members, and purge the Electoral Roll. 10. To return to Parliament capable and honourable men, who will resolutely oppose all tampering with the public credit; and whose aim will not be individual gain, but the welfare of the whole COLONY. The Council urge all sympathisers with the foregoing objects to communicate with the Secretary, MR. JOHN HASTIE, at the ASSOCIATION'S ROOMS, 123, QUEEN-STREET, who will supply them with all information relating to the Association, and place them in the way of joining the Association, or establishing branches in their districts.
