POLICE COURT.— Saturday. ; ': [Before Dr. Giles, 8.M.1 ' Drunkenness.Two firsb offenders were fined 5a each, or, in default, 24 hours' imprisonment. Ann Drum, for a second offence, was fined 40s and 2s cost of cab hire, or, in defaulffc, seven days' imprisonment. - '■ ■■■■ ' Obscene Language. McManus, alias Chase, and Charles Frederick Chase were charged with using obscene language in Abercrombie-streeb on October 14. Accused both pleaded guilty to the charge, and were sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour each. Alleged Breaking and Entering.— Charles Henry Williams, aged 13, was charged with breaking and entering the warehouse of J. J. Patterson and James Coe, in Queen-street, on or about October 7, and stealing therefrom eight books, of the value of 16s 6d, the property of Patterson and Coe. Accused was further charged with stealing 12 books, the property of Patterson and Co, on October 12. Accused was next charged with stealing, on September 14, five books of the value of £1 12s, the property of Patterson and Coe. On the application of Sergeant Gamble these cases were adjourned until Tuesday next. Larceny.—Walter Hyams, alias Cole, was charged with stealing on September 13 three billiard balls, of the value of £3 3s, the property of John Hand. Accused pleaded guilty to the charge. Sergeant Gamble stated that accused had been a billiard-marker in the employ of John Hand in the Ponsonby Club Hotel, and on leaving his situation had taken the balls with him. Dr. Giles remarked that accused was not entering on a very promising career in New Zealand. He had arrived a few weeks back as a stowaway. Accused was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour.
