AQUATICS.

WEST END ROWING CLUB. The above club held their first trial fours of the season on Saturday last for trophies (two silver cups and two gold bracelets). There was a large number of spectators on the beach, and also on the balcony. Seven crews competed. White's crew beat Clark's after an exciting race; Baxter's beat Gentles'; Atkinson's beat liovvry's crew on the post; Paine's crew drew a bye; Atkinson's beat Baxter's. Bell took the stroke oar of the former crew, Atkinson being unwell. White and Bell's crews met to fight out the final, which the latter won rather easily, owing to White's rowlock being straightened out early in the race. White's crew—C. White (stroke), H. McMillan, T. U. Welts, and J. Shepherd—then met Bell's crew tor the final, which was a great race, neither crew holding the lead for long, Belt's securing half-a-length at the finish. The winning crew were—M. Bell (stroke), R. Dowden, D. R. Salmon, J. Wilson. The afternoon's sport was very successful, and was carried on under the direction of the deputy-captain, Mr. John Baxter. The course was from St. Mary's Bay to the boatshed, about a mile.
