The pigeon-flying match from Wanganui to Wellington, in connection with the local flying club, was won by Mr. Fitzgerald's John Forbes, 3J hours. Mr. Mowatt's Flotsam was second. At the inquest at Palmerston North, on the body of the young man named Head, killed by a fall at Oroua Bridge some time ago, a verdict of accidental death was returned. Williams, who was arrested in connection with the affair and charged with wilful murder, has been discharged from custody. The poll on the drainage loan takes place on Friday. The Minister of Justice has refused to grant the Council prison labour to make a road round the town belt. Sunday. The Parliamentary party and friends to the number of fifty left for Westport yesterday morning. Half the number were ladies. New Plymouth, Saturday. The Takapuna was berthed at the wharf, this morning, in order to discharge 30 tons heavy machinery for the Waitara Freezing Works. This is satisfactory proof that the dredge is doing good service in clearing away the sand. Greymooth, Sunday. The coal export for the week was 5077 tons, Westport, Saturday. The Hinemoa is due early to-morrow morning with members of Parliament. It has been arranged that the party shall go by special train to-morrow to Mokohinui and Denniston. At the latter place they will be entertained by the Westport Coal Company and on Monday will visit Cape Foulwind, and the harbour works, and be entertained at a public launch. The co\l export for the week just ended was 4971 tons. Dunedin, Saturday. At the City Court, Starraway and Douglas, two lads, were committed for trial for an aggravated assault on Carey at Kaikorai. Boyd was discharged.
