A WELCOME TO RAINDROPS.
Welcome, ye fairy throng, swept by the breeze along, Pattering gleefully over the earth ; On the boughs baUncing, watching your chance to fling O'er the by-passer in sparkles of mirth. Oft have we watched you climb, in the hot summerti >ie Skyward from ocean at dying of day ; Gorgeous Sun Fairies then, now ye troop back again, Cool, clear, and crystalline, giddy and gay. Say when roamed afar, by the sweet Evening Star, What saw ye beautiful of glow and gleam ? What of unspeakable, almost unthinkable, Splendours, that scarce light our loftiest dream ? Ah! je could ne'er make known, in your soft monotone, Aught of the radiance abloom on those plains. But we shall see it, when ye blaze it forth again, In the bright flower-thoughts that follow the rain. Devonport, Sept. 1,1892. A.B.
