DIABOLICAL OUTRAGE.
ATTEMPT TO WRECK A'TRAIN. [BY telegram.—own CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Monday. A diabolical attempt was made todaj to wreck the train from Auckland, but happily it was frustrated by Mr. T. H. White, who on crossing the railway at O'Neill's Road, observed two sleepers so placed that if one of them did not derail a passing train the other would most assuredly do so. He removed the obstruction and gave information to the police. This could scarcely have been the work of children or mere boys, for the sleepers were heavy to move. One of them was placed with the end down on the hollow of the cattle guard with the other end projecting so as to catch the wheels of the engine.
