The South British have a risk of £1000, the New Zealand to the same amount, and the Natiojial of New Zealand £500. FRENCH ANNEXATION. Melbourne, August 17. The Premier of Victoria is communicating with the Governments of other colonies, pointing out that it is not desirable to allow Franc© to acquire St. Paul or Amsterdam Islands, ana desires that joint representation be made to the Imperial authorities in connection with the matter. . THE BROKEN HILL MINES. Sydney, August 17. The mine owners have resolved to adopt the old schedule of wages, which is, however, largely subject to a satisfactory recovery of the price of silver. They intend to re-open the mines at these rates on the 2&th instant, and if insufficient men apply for work, they will be compelled to make other arrangements.
