ABBOTTS OPERA HOUSE.

The charming play, "Sunlight and Shadow," was repeated last night at the Opera House, by Miss Myra Komble arid her dramatic company. There was an excellent audience in the lower parts of the theatre.

To night there is to bo a change of programme, when a. double bill will be submittu'i. First there will be a one-act play by the well-known author, Jerome K.Jerome, entitled, " Barbara," bright little piece, in which bothhumourand pathos are happily blent, the humour furnished by the misunderstandings of a pair of bashful lovers, and the pathos by the selfabnegation of a woman in whom the lovers confide. This is to be a fitting introduction to the chief work, "Jane," a farcical comedy, by Henry Nichollsand VV. Lestocq, first produced at 1 lie Comedy Theatre, London, where it had a run of some 400 nights, while only last month it was played at Sydney and Melbourne. The dialogue of the piece is reported to be bright and sparkling. It fairly coruscates with bon mots. As for the plot, it is a most, whimsical conception, and is wrought out to its conclusion amid a perfect whirl of ludicrous situations. The Miltouio idea of " Laughter holding both his sides" will best describe the condition of the audience, for the most phlegmetic temperament; could not withstand the laughter-provoking influence of the play. Every person in the play has a part which fits like a glove. Miss Myra Kemble is at her very best. Liyht comedy is her forte, and " Dr. Bill" afforded her no proper scope to make that evident, but her impersonation of Jane cannot be excelled. The box plan is filling rapidly, and no doubt a largo audience will greet Jane's first appearance. The performance will commence with " Barbara," at ten minutes to eight p.m. _______
