PAPAKURA. The annual athletic sports were held here on May 24th (the Queen's Birthday), and notwithstanding the. very unfavourable weather they passed off in a fairly-successful way. The attendance was pretty good, and included a few of the fair sex and settlers from Hunua and Maketu. The Otahu.hu brass band was in attendance, and discoursed sweep music to cheer the company and dispel the dillness caused by the frequent and cold passing showers of hail and rain. An active committee, with Mr. G. Pennell as hon. secretary, did their best to carry out the arrangements.—[Own Correspondent.]
