CHILD BURNED TO DEATH.
A little boy, five years of age, named William Richard Brown, died at his mother's residence in If obson-street last evening shortly before eleven o'clock, from burns he received the previous day. It appears that at S o'clock on Monday morning Mrs. Brown took the boy into the kitchen" that she might, dress him by the iire, which had been made on the top of a colonial oven. Leaving the boy standing by the tire with his shirt on, Mrs. Brown then left the room with the intention of bringing he baby downstairs, and during her absence heard a'scream. As quickly as possible Mrs. Brown hastened back to the kitchen, and found her child on lire, and immediately extinguished the ilames by wrapping her dress around him. The child was then found to be burned from the right thigh to the neck ; the skin blistering and, pealing off in many places. Mrs. Brown applied castor oil tothe burns, and sent to a chemist, w ho gave her a lotion to apply to the affected parts! However, the boy passed a restless night, and about two o'clock next afternoon he"" became unconscious and delirious. No improvement taking place in his condition, Dr. Dawson was called in about seven o'clock, and prescribed some met'icinc, and ordered the use of the lotion to be continned. The child did not seem to rally under the treatment, and expired at 10.40 last evening. An inquest ill be held by Dr. l'hilson, coroner, this forenoon, at 11 o'clock.
