VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

THE DRILL-SHED. Last night was an off night at the Drillshod, no special parade being called. It would have been the ordinary drill night for the engineers, but the new regulations only require that company to muster once a fortnight, and advantage was taken of the opportunity by the Ponsonby Navals to put a number of their now members through a course of recruit drill undor the petty officers of the company. There was a pretty fair muster, and the instruction imparted was of a very useful character.

queen's birthday SHAM-FIGHT. The scene of the sham-light having been decided upon and fixed for the Bastion, Colonel Goring and a number of volunteer officers proceeded in the steam launch Isabel to the fighting ground yesterday, for the purpose of mapping off a plan of attack and defence. The following officers were included in the party Major Skinner, Captains Parker, Miller, and Robertson, Lieutenant-Adjutant Grant, Lieutenants Jackson Palmer, Montgomery, and Wilson (recently elected lieutenant of the Newton Itifles). A careful inspection of the most salient points was made, and the plan of attack and defence was decided on. What that is we do not know, but it is decided that Major Skinner will have command of the defending party. The Navals will form the attacking party, and we understand that the first proposition that a naval contingent from H. M.s. Kingarooma should take part in the display will be given effect to, as even if the Ringarooma sails for Wellington a company of (30 men, under a lieutenant, will be left in depot. This will add a great deal of eclat to tho display. AUCKLAND NAVAL ARTILLERY. The thirty-second annual meeting of this company was held in the Drill-shed last evening, Captain Parker in the chair. Parker, re-elected, secretary ; Lieutenant Little and Petty officer .John Clarke, as Finance Committee ; Lieutenant Smith, Petty Officer M. Moore, and Seaman Craig were elected as Clothing Committee ; and Lieutenant Smith, Chief Potty Officer McKay, and Seaman Boreham as auditors to the company. It was also agreed that the company have their annual dinner on Queen's Birthday, and in the event of the Thames Navals coming to take part in the sham fight that they be invited.
