NORMAN BY (TARANAIvI). Last week our township was unusually quiet—nothing to chronicle at all, not even a dog-fight or court case (two of our leading pastimes)—but this week, however, seems to be on a fair way of making up for last week's shortcomings, Normanby being again to the fore as regards litigation, and those concerned find it very inconvenient having to go to Hawera 011 such occasions ! and with a view to public convenience, and the large business none here in law, it would confer a great benefit if the Minister for Justice could see his way clear to erect a courthouse in our township, and should this be carried out no difficulty would, I am sure, be found in getting some of our " bush lawyers" to act as honorary magistrates. This, with the addition of one or two of the " devil's own," would be a great boon, as well as an acquisition to our township, which appears to have an unenviable notoriety for adding more than its fair quantum to the pockets of that profession of which his Satanic majesty is said to be the head.
