FLOODS IN QUEENSLAND

Disastrous floods have occurred at Townsville, where 19£ inches of rain fell in 24 hours and 24 inches in 48 hours. The water undermined the foundation of St. Joseph's Church (Roman Catholic), and the building is now a complete wreck. The greater part of the town 'is under water. The suburbs are cut off from communication with the centre of the town, aq,d it is not known whether there are any fatalities. Hundreds of people have taken refuge on the hillsides. Rain is still falling. Two small vessels are ashore in the bay.
