ATHLETIC SPORTS.

AQUATIC GALA TO TOM SULLIVAN. The aquatic gala on Lake Takapuna, arranged by the Auckland Rowing Association, as a compliment to Mr. Tom Sullivan, the well-known sculler, promises to be a great success, as all the rowing men in the various clubs have manifested great interest in the proceedings. The list of entries given below is a very creditable one, and as the several crews have done a good deal of training, .the contests should be very keen. Mr. Tom Sullivan will give an exihibition of starting and fancy sculling, and will also pull alongside the amateur scullers in their handicap event. He will also row against the senior four-oared gigs, and this should give a very good idea of his speed to the onlookers. The boats of competitors arc to be taken on board a ferry boat at the Hobson-street wharf at eleven" o'clock a.m. on Saturday, and conveyed to the Lake, while the steamers for spectators and others are to leave at halfpast one p.m. and five minutes past two p.m. all arrangements for landing have been made carefully, and ladies can rely upon yetting ashore with ease and comfort, while the programme being a short one, will enable the return journeys to finish before dark. Mr. A. Alison has been appointed starter, Mr. H. Brett judge, and Air. J. M. Brigham umpire. The through fare is fixed at the moderate figure of one shilling, and the pleasant sea trip should prove an additional incentive to tile races in causing a large number of spectators to be present, while the opportunity ot paying a deserved compliment to our popular young oarsman should not be. neglected, as he is so shortly to go forth to do battle for New Zealand against the world's champions.
