Press Association.—Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. TEE WRECK OF THE FIJI.' Melbourne, September 11. The statement of Captain Vickers, of the ill-fated barque Fiji, that when b« left the vessel Arthur Wilkinson, who swam off from the shore to assist a sailor, was dead, is apparently incorrect, as when the body was found the hands were tightly clutching straw and other things, indicating a final struggle when the vessel broke up. GAMBLING AND SWEEPS. . ; Sydney, September 11. The Legislative Council has passed a motion requesting the Government to introduce a Bill dealing with gambling, and the use made of the Post Office to carry on sweeps.
