THE RAILWAY RE VENUE.
Tim Chief Commissioner of Railways telle me (says our Wellington correspondent on August 27) that the railway revenue is improving in a surprising manner. It will be remembered that it had fallen behind by some £25,000 by the end of the June quarter. Of this shortcoming more than £10,000 has already been recovered owing to the improvement in traffic. It is practically ascertained that by the end of this month the revenue will be less than £15,000 behind, and by the end of the September quarter the shortcoming will have been reduced to £10,000 or £12,000, and that it will be extinguished altogether long before the close of the current financial year.
