Common's victory in the St. Leger is the fifth occasion on which the " triple crown " (Two Thousand Guineas. Derby, and St. Leger) has been won by the same colt. Mr. Bowes' West Australia, in 1853, was the first to achieve the distinction, and the feat was not again recorded until 1865, when the French sportsman Count Lagrange's colt won ; and in the following year Mr. Sutton a pain brought off the treble with Lord Lyon. There was then another long intervalnineteen years elapsing—before the Duke of Westminster secured the much-coveted honour with Ormonde. This year marked the 116 th contest for the St. Leger. The following is the list of the winners since 1862:
THE,AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB'S
SPRING MEETING. TRAINING NOTES.
Sydney, September 10. Oxide has been doing great work at Randwick, and should the Derby be strongly run from end to end it will favour the son of Sardonyx. Sunshine, assisted by Markee, left him behind in fine style. Scots Grey put in a good working gallop, but nothing of special moment. Muriel did excellent work, and she will require a lot of beating in the Metropolitan Stakes. The Derhy favourite, Stromboli, was sent a striding gallop once round, and he appeared to tire a little at the finish, ACCEPTANCES.
