THE HUDDART-PARKER STEAM SHIP LINE.

Our London correspondent writes on Aug. 7 : Great interest no doubt attaches in the colony to the formation of the new steamship company which is to navigate the seas between New Zealand, Tasmania, and Australia, the route being to and from Sydney and Melbourne, by way of the West Coast of New Zealand, the Bluff, and Hobart. .Mr. James Huddart informs me that the new steel steamships which have been ordered for this new service will be such as will satisfy all the requirements of a critical public. In point of safety they will be equal to anything of their size atloat. In respect of speed, comfort, size, promenade space, and sea-going ablilities, they will in each case be a distinct advance innavalarehitecture over the steamships now employed ill ocean traffic. They will carry refrigerators fitted up as completely as if for ships which are to trade to Europe. Every provision will be made for the comfort of ladies, and the gratification of the tastes of musical people, and the electric light installation will be of the most modern and complete type. The building of these vessels has been entrusted to Messrs. C. S. Swann and Hunter, of Wallsend, Mewcustte-on-'L'yne, the constructors of the Courier and other ships of the HuddartParker line. The company will initiate a fortnightly service to and from Sydney and Melbourne by the route above indicated, and this will be changed into a weekly service as quickly as trade shall demand. Two of these new steamships are, before being sent to the Antipodes, to take a trip to Norway next year. The whole of-their passenger accommodation will be reserved for Antipodeans who may be visiting Europe and wish to make this tour. The intention is to advertise the boats in the colonies during December, January, and February next, previous to advertising them in England." Colonists will he able to book at the offices of Messrs. Huddart, Parker and Co.'s managing agent in Australia, and at -the various agencies which will be set up in New Zealand and Tasmania. Mr. Huddart has around him the nucleus of a substantial financial syndicate, but it is felt that to thoroughly popularise the movement shares must be offered to those who can help forward the new company. With this view the first issue of shares will be limited topersons of this class, who will be placed on exactly the same footing as the syndicate above referred to. Should the necessities of trade require it, other steamships will be put oil to act as feeders to the larger line. Mr. Huddart has opened a London office at 22, liter-street, x^.C.
