WAIF A COUNTY COUNCIL.

[FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] 1; Ohaui'O, Wednesday. At the Waipa County Council meeting held yesterday there were present: — Mr. Lasjg (chairman), and Messrs. Finch, Shepherd, Smith, Elmsley, and and Kusabs. Mr. Shepherd stated that he had waited 011 the Ngaruawahia Town Board respecting the trees complained of by the railway authorities It was a liability of the Council, and the Town Board was content that they should be removed. With respect to the road from Stone's corner to Ngaruawahia, the Nagruawahia Town Board had agreed to get a rnfetin" of the settlers interested, and find what they required. The majority at the meeting thu3 held were desirous of having the aides ploughed and the material thrown into the centre, and the centre sanded with six inches of sand. Mr. Shepherd stated that the worst part was over a distance of a mile in length, commencing from Stone's corner. The engineer" said it would not be a very expensive work, and the sand or gravel easily procurable. To do the work properly, the road from Stone's corner to Ngaruawahia, four anda-half miles, required doing, that is if the county was in funds The Chairman thought the worst parts should be repaired as far as the funds available went, but that four inches of sand was ample. If six inches of sand were put 011, the road would be very heavy for a couple of years. The Engineer thought three inches of sand would be enough, and some portions of the road, if ploughed deep enough, would turn up sand. The other works recommended by the engineer to the amount of £172 were ordered to be put in hand, as appears in the following report:—lhe en- I gineer drew attention to certain works i which had been postponed, but required doing, namely, the improvement to the approach to the Mangapiko Bridge at Alexandra. The grading of the road near McMicken's in the Tuhikaramea Ruling, and at the culvert near the linger post on the same road, also forming portion of the Hamilton-Ohaupo road near Rothwells, and forming portion of the Kihikihi-Orakau road, In addition to this there were the road improvement required between Stone's corner and Ngaruawahia. The engineer also reported that the contract for forming and sanding a portion of the Te AwamutuOluiupo road had been completed/as also the repairs to the Waipa Bridge at Alexandra. With respect to works required to be done he had prepared a section of a portion of the Ohaupo-Paterangi Road, near Mr. Ryburn's. He also recommended that instead of grading the Paterangi Road at its junction with the le Awamutu-Ohaupo Road, which would necessitate the grading of the latter, it would bo better to make up the centre ol the road and have the worst portions gravelled. The allocation of expenditure for the coming term was deferred till next meeting. Mr. Elmsley stated that one or two low-lying parts of the To Awamutu-Kihi Road, at Sorby's and at Bridgeman's, should be raised, They were very heavy in wet weather. The engineer thought very little could be done at Bridgeman's till the neighbouring proprietor cut his trees down, which shaded the road. It was resolved to apply to Mr. Bridgcman to cut the trees down. It was resolved to gravel the bad spot at Sorby's. On the recommendation of the engineer, it was resolved to the/roughly form the long upper flat on the Ngaruawahia (Stone's corner) Road for about half a mile, and patch the remainder, so as to make it passable to the amount of £50, the sanding to be deferred till the autumn. On the motion of Mr. Finch, seconded by Mr. Shepherd, it was resolved to cut down the pine trees at Ngaruawahia level with the ground, and to clean out the channel leading down to the river The balance-sheet of the County for year ending March 31, 1891, was read and adopted. Correspondence was read from the audit office stating that the cost of the legal expenses in the prosecution connected with the destruction of the punt at Ngaruawahia, if paid by the county would be passed as a legal payment. It was then resolved to pay the proportion demanded from the Council, namely, £13 9s Bd. The tenders for the Innesfallen works were deferred in consequence of one tender having been mislaid, and the matter was left in the hands of the chairman and engineer. One tender only was received for the use of Coe's paddock, at £1 5s per annum for two years from Mr. Rutherford. Tender accepted. Later in the day the other tender from the grading and forming at Innisfallen was found, and the tender of Mr. McGallum accepted.
