VICTORY AT WANG ANUI." [by telegraph.—press association.] ' Wanganui, Wednesday.—Tho "rep." match between Auckland and Wanganui, played today, resulted in an easy victory for Auckland by 22 points to nil.Auckland kicked off at' 3.10 p.m., and from the outset drove their opponents back into their 25. Tho first try was awarded to Jems, who made a splendid run, fending well. The kick was difficult, and no goal was scored, but two minutes aftewards Jervis repeated his performance, and Peonlligan kicked a goal. Soon afterwards Jervis made another rush, but was grassed at the corner flag. Auckland was -- shortly awarded a free kick, from which a goal was scored. Elliott next got the ball, and after a smart dash dropped over the line with it, but no goal resulted. Some neat play of the Wanganui backs gained the home , team a lot of ground, but Auckland was not long without the ball, which was passed to Masefield and then Jervis, and a try was the result, which Pennalligan again converted. At the commencement of the second half the visitors did some grand passing evoking applause, and from this point Wan- . ganui fell to pieces. _ Soon after Herrold and Poland got over in succession, the latter touching down under the posts, at id one goal was the result of the two tries. W. McLean next made a determined effort, and had lie been backed up Wanganui would have' scored. Elliott soon got his second try, and Masefield followed up with another. A few minutes later saw Peake and Herrold fighting out a maul which ended in favour of the latter, Auckland scoring. Though no goal followed from this, two minutes before time Murray got over the line, and Pennalligan , converted the point into a goal. In all ten tries were score i, half of which were converted, and one goal also got from a penalty kick.
