Mr. R. M. Houston's (member for the Bay) letter to the Chamber of Commerce, Auckland, re their neglect of the far north, has scored many points in his favour among his constituents. His remarks are so true that any denial is impossible. It is quite true that had it not been for the opposition displayed by Auckland proper, the Bay. of Islands would years ago have been the port of call for our mail steamers. When we look at the great quantity of cargo by the s.s.
