AUCKLAND ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
A mektin'o of the Council of this Society was held yesterday in the Museum buildin<'H. Present: Messrs- .lames Burtt (chairman) Chat,field, Choyce, Wansborough, Whitney, and Cheeseman (secretary). Accounts, The secretary stated that since last meeting the receipts had amounred to £12, and the expenditure to £21 10 lid, leaving a credit balance at the bank of £142 14.- (3d. . . Resignation'.—The resignation oi the Rev. Mr. Bentty as a member of the Council, owing to his departure for Britain, was accepted with expressions of regret. Application for English Wild Ducks. —The Wellington Acclimatisation Society wrote, asking if the Auckland Society could spare any of the English wild ducks it had at Lake Takapuna ; and, if ho, at what price it would sell a few, It was decided | to reply that the flock was nob yet suffi- j ciently large to warrant distribution. Distribution of Trout. —The secretary reported that during the season trout had been liberated as follows Brown trout, Otorohanga, 1500 ; rainbow trout, -tributaries of the Upper Thames (Okoroire, 500 ; Oraka, 410; Waimakeriri, 500 ;_Waihou, 200; and Mangawhara, 260), 1870; Lake Takapuna, 100; South \\ airoa, 13.>; Ivaipara, 40 ; and Whaingaroa, .SO; total, .3725. Mr. Cheesoman said these had all been fine fish, averaging six inches in length, so that there ought to bo soon something to show in return for the distribution. Spawning.The Secretary stated that ' Mr. Cliff had got about 12,000 good ova, and would have been able to secure perhaps 30 000 had ho had sufficient milt for fertilising purposes. Some had been hatched out and all would be, and he hoped the Society would find it unnecessary to order any this season from the Southern provinces. The insufficiency of milt was a difficulty that would nob occur next year. Prawns ami Lobsters.— was resolvea that the secretary should write to the New South Wales Fisheries Department, reminding them of their promise to assist in the introduction here of Sydney prawns, and to Mr. Craig, of San Francisco, inquiring if any lobsters suitable for introduction into New Zealand waters could be obtained in California.
