RAISING THE WIND.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—When talking with some friends the other day it was suggested that a number of irritating taxes might be removed by taxing receipts as follows Above £2, and not exceeding £5, Id; not exceeding £10, 2d; not exceeding £20, 3d; not exceeding £50, 6d; not exceeding £100, and for every hundred pounds, Is. For this method of , taxation no army corps of Civil servants would be required, as postage stamps (properly gummed) would suit the purpose admirably. If this method would not provide sufficient funds, then knock off one-half of the Education vote, as of late we have simply been educating our youths for the purpose of populating the neighbouring colonies. . Will you, Mr. Editor, npint out the weak or vulnerable points in the above proposals.—l am, &c, W. G.
