The egg industry is making rapid strides in Austria-Hungary, '' the exports having largely increased during last year. In the ten months ending October, 1889, those exports amounted to 915,500cwt gross. During the same period in 1890 it reached 968,000cwb, or an increase of ' 52,500cwt over the previous year. England and Germany are the chief consumers of Austrian egg?, the bulk being sent to Germany notwithstanding the import duty of Is f{d per cwt. From January to October, 1890, Germany imported 974,800cwt of egge, of which 581,400cwt came from AustriaHungary, and 329,000cwb from Russia. These imported eggs are not used exclusively for food, large quantities being used in industries.
