RODNEY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
On Monday, tfl*' 13th, a meeting of the Rodney Agricultural Society was held in the Warkworth Hotel, and, considering the usual fate of public meetings,, there was a fair _ attendance. Mr. Nathaniel Wilson, president of the society, occupied the chair. There were also present several delegates from the Matakana Farmers' Associacion, as well as friends from other neighbouring districts. The Chairman, after reading the advertisement convening this statutory annual meeting, deplored the absence. of public spirit in the district, and stated that the first business of the meeting was the election of a committee for the ensuing year ; and, in order to be in conformity with a resolution passed at a recent public rfeeting, and with the desire of many settlers in Matakana, it would be necessary to alter by-law 2, which prescribed that the general committee should consist of seven members. Several clauses of the Act under which the society is registered and bearing on the subject were read ; and, after discussion, the following resolution was proposed by Mr. J. B. Jordati, seconded by Mr. J. G. Carrie, and carried unanimously :—" That by-law 2 of this society, limiting the members of committee to seven, be cancelled ; and that the following be adopted in place thereof: That the general committee consist of ten members, live from Matakana and five from Mahurangi, and that in future each district nominate their own five members; that the show and annual general meeting be held in each district alternately, and that the general committee decide in which district the first show and next annual general meeting be held." Another resolution was proposed by the chairman, seconded by Mr. Meiiclejohn, and carried, " That the quorum of the annual general meeting be 10 members." Mr. Wilson, in his speech, hoped the society would not be content with holding an annual show, but would discuss much more important matters, such as man ares, feeding, and agricultural matters generally. Mr. Dereeourt (from Matakana) stated tlmt Matakana was interested in the3c matters, and for the purpose of discussing them the Fanners' Association was formed, and at the meetings papers on the various subjects were regularly read. Mr. Bear thought that social intercourse between the districts would do good, and that one meeting in each district might with advantage to each be held in the course of the year. The following names were proposed for the general committee for the ensuing year :—Matakana district, Messrs. J. Birdsall, J. G. Dereeourt, 8. Meiklojohn, J. (Jr. Carrie, and A. Campbell; Mahurangi district, Messrs. J. B. Jordan, A. Deacon, John Taylor, A. Hood, and G. F. Such, and, as no others were nominated, were declared by the chairman the general committee of the society for the ensuing year. The following were also unanimously elected to the respective offices for the ensuing year* — President, Mr. G. F. Such; vice-president, Mr. A. Campbell; treasurer, Mr. J. B. Jordan; auditors, Mr. Nathaniel Wilson and Mr. C. Phillips. The committee met after the general meeting and fixed the next meeting should be held on Wednesday, the 16th September. Before separation, Mr. Carrie called the attention of sheepowners to a petition now being signed in the district requesting that certain clauses of the Sheep Act which require that all sheep should; have a wool brand might bo declared inoperative, as such a brand was not required in this part of the colony, and when the Act was complied with made a considerable deterioration in the value of tho wool. Several sheepowners signed at once. — [Mahurangi Correspondent.]
