A LUDICROUS AND DISGUSTING STAG HUNT.

[BY TELEGIIAPII.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Monday. The Hunt Club for eome time have arranged a stng hunt, which, after several postponements from the weather, came off at Mirama, some miles out of town, on Saturday. It was a regular fiasco, as tho .stag refused to be hunted, and took refuge with the cows. It seomed more or less tame, and after somo '' baiting" tho attempt was given up. The result of this "hunt" is that tho Governor has ordered hi** name to bo withdrawn as patron of kh'e club. Ho declines to be associated " with a society of so-called sportsmen who oan be responsible for such treatment of a halfgrown animal as occurred by the Society. It was an exhibition which His Excellency is credibly informed would have been ludicrous in the extreme if it had not been so unutterably disgusting." Replying to the Governor's letter, Mr. Lingard, Secretary of the Hunt Club, eays particular instructions were given to guard against cruelty, and he thinks an exaggerated account must have readied Lord Onslow. Ho was nob present himsolf, bub hoe instituted an inquiry into tho proceedings. Tho Times and Post both condemn the Hunt Club for their bohaviour in the stag hunt on Saturday, and the latter commends the Governor's prompt action in withdrawing hia patronage. Tho Prose, however, rathor pooh-poohs the alleged cruelty.
