JOTTINGS FROM WELLINGTON.

/ Tfrom a CORRESPONDENT.) NEW MASTER GUNNER. Skroeant-Majok Neville, of the Imperial Forces, has been re-engaged for a further period of three years, and is now promoted to be Master Gunner. His salary will be 10s pier day, £40 annually house allowance, £10 for fuel and light, and and another 10s per day as travelling expenses. In addition to the advantages extended to SergeantMajor Neville our Government are under engagement to pay his passage and that of his family at the expiration of his present engagement. Ido not think that matters in connection with the artillery were ever in such a muddle since the corps was first formed as at present. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL APPOINT- ' ' MENTS. I should not bo surprised to hear very shortly that amongst others who are to bo called to the Upper Chamber the name of the Hon. J. A. Tole, formerly Minister of Justice in the late Ballance Ministry will be included. As your readers are aware, Sir Frederick Whitakerhaa got leave of absence for the present session, owing to advanced years and failing health, and as this leaves your section of tho colony a unit less than its usual number, it it is only reasonable to conclude that Sir Frederick's looked-for retirement will bo filled by another similar appointment from the Auckland provincial district. .
