FOUND DROWNED.

[BY.< telegraph.— correspondent.] ' • * •'' ' • Thames", Saturday. About seven o'clock this morning the body of a man named George Atkins was found in a water hole at the foot of the Waiotahi aqueduct near the head of the goods wharf. It appears that on Thursday last the deceased was admitted to the hospital suffer, ing from a. severe attack of bronchitis, which had a somewhat depressing effect upon his mind. His general behaviour, however, was perfectly rational, and there was nothing iu • his - manner that conveyed the least suspicion that he contemplated suicide. Between four and five o'clock this morning he left the hospital fully dressed with the exception of his boots, and as he did not return Dr. Williams communicated with Serjeant Gillies,, who had just learned that the body, of a man had been found on the beach, which afterwards was identified as the remains of Atkins. Deceased was a very old resident of the Thames, and had lived for many years in Waiotahi. He was in very fair circumstances, and only on Thursday last drew up a will, in which he bequeathed all his property to a niece in Wellington, and making Mr. James Patereon, of Owen-street, a trustee in the estate. This afternoon an inquest was held by Mr. Haselden, District Coroner, at the Governor Bowen Hotel, when a'verdict of "Found drowned " was returned.
