REDUCTION OF TELEPHONE RATES.
[by telegraph.—own correspondents.] Wellington, Thursday. The Hon. the Postmaster-General has decided to reduce the charge for connection with the telephone exchange to £5 for each instrument. This reduction applies to instruments in offices as well as in private houses. It is believed that the increasing demand for connection with the exchange will recoup any loss of revenue, in fact I learn that the Postmaster-Genernl has gone into tho whole question, and that an increase rather than a loss of revenue may reasonably be expected from the extension of this great commercial convenience consequent upon the reduction of tho charge.
