The Union S.S. Co.'s Tarawera was detained at Russell, and did not arrive here until 5 p.m. yesterday. Her departure for the Soutn and Melbourne had consequently to be postponed, and she, did not get away until 9.30 last night. She took a fair amount of outward cargo and a good number of paseengers for her various ports of call. Advices from Rarotonga by the brigantine Linda Weber, now at Wellington, report the Auckland vessels, brigantine Clansman and schooners Jessie ISiccol and Torea in the Heryey Group when she left. The locally-owned schooner Sarah Pile, with a cargo of bonedust and sundriee from Rockhampton, Queensland, is now about due here. The barque Mary Hasbrouck, Captain Ltidwig,.has been diverted from this port by her owners, Messrs. Arnold, Cheney, and Co., and. she has now been fixed.to proceed / in b&llasfc to Padang, Sumatra, arid there load Eastern merchandise for New York. The Union S.S; Co.'e Ohau is ■■ to leave Dunedin on Monday next for Auckland via hex usual East Coast ports, and is expected to arrive here about the 15th instant. Yesterday the yacht Wenona, Captain R. Sopwithj sailed for Samoa with a favouring breeze. THe brigantine Stanley, Captain D. H. McKenzie, has been fixed to load timber at Mercury Bay for Sydney, and will sail to the former port in a day or so. The s.B. lona arrived early yesterday from Xuaotunu and Mercury Bay, and lelt again in the evening. Yesterday the Government steamer Hinemoa completed the shipment of her defence etores, and last night left on her round trip • to the beacons, lighthouses, e£c., on the coas.t. Yesterday evening, the well-known threemasted schooner Maile, Captain Lano, I reached port after nearly, 13 months' absence, during which time she has been cruising botween the various guano: depots and trading ; v> stations of Messrs. J. T. Arundel and Co. in the Pacific. Captain Lano reports of the round trip:—The Maile left Auckland i on 1 May 20th, 1890, but put into Whangarei the same night with a N.E. gale, leaving again on the 24th. :;: She made the run to Howland Island in 19 days. She loaded half a cargo of ' y-;; ;guano, and ran to Samoa for mails, calling at several islands' of ; the Phoenix Group. < Beturning, after having made the round trip, back to Howland in a month, , she left again for Raine Island on , August 2nd, leaving the ill-fated Notero to i take her place 'at the Buoy, she reached. On January 11 the ship Deveron hove in sight, and made fast to the buoy next morning, being about two months behind her time. At 4 p.m. the Deveron left again, the crew refusing to work the cargo. On the 24th the Muile left for Samoa for mails and provisions, returning again on February 13, when she found the barque Prjanass wrecked at Howland, having gone ashore tho evening before in a squall from the west. On February U3 the Maile left for Samoa with all the crow of the barque, also tho manager and return Nuic men, tho weather being very unsettled and squally. On March 0 she anchored in Apia harbour, and on the 12th left again for Howland Island via Nuie, arriving, on March 30. After laying down new moorings and heaving up the old ones, she finished loading her guano and left for Auckland finally on May 12. The barque Aloestis arrived on May Bth, and the barque Bells on the 10th, and were to load at once. On her trip down theMaile experienced lifiut winds and calms to lOeleg. S., bnt the trades proved strong and equally, amounting to a gate. She made Norfolk Island on May SOlih, and thence bad fine weather to the North Capo, when the wind hauled to N.E. and N., blowing hard. The schooner passed Cape Brett at 6 p.m. on tho 3rd, the weather being thick, but clearing up as we passed the Chickens, and tho wind prevailed to west.
