IRRIGATING THE RAKAIA PLAINS.
[by telegraph, —press association*.] Ashbortojt, Tuesday. At a largely attended meeting of county ratepayers held to consider tho irrigation question, the following resolutions were carried unanimously :—"That this meeting having had placed before it the several reports of the count}' engineer on the question ot irrigating the Ashburton-Rakaia plains, desires to express its opinion that a system of irrigation is desirable, and that the necessary steps be taken to define an irrigation district to give effect to the foregoing resolution."
