About 2 o'clock yesterday the French cruiser Champlain got up anchors from her moorings in the stream, and slowly proceeded , out of port after a stay of several weeks, during which she has received air extensive overhaul and repairing in the Calliope Dock. The Champlain is bound for Valparaiso and the Chilian coast. The locally-owned schooner Saxon, Capt. Martin, returned to port yesterday after an absence of a couple of months, bringing in a cargo of grain and produce from Lyttelton. She had a moderate feather passage of 12 days up the coast. At an early hour yesterday morning the s.s. Southern Cross reached port from her usual trip to the East Coast and Wellington. She brought a general cargo and a couple of passengers. During yesterday the Island packet Wainui, Captain Crawshaw, was busily loading, and shipped a large freighting of provisions, soft goods, timber, and live stock for her ports in the Friendly and Navigator groups. She sailed for the first of these, Nukualofa, at 5 p.m., with about a dozen passengers. ' The schooner Medora is again in port from the North, with a cargo of 20 tons saud, 100 cases mullet, 135 sacks and 14 cases gum, 10 packages hides, and 100 sleepers.
