" Seventh— deaths among lives assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims i upon the Society amounting to £299,602, irrespective of ■ bonus additions,' wnile the- number expected •" according, to the tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143 for au amount of £438,976, the mortality experience being thus : extremely favourable. .: Eighth—The receipts from Interest and Rents wore £616,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for . the claims by £138,962. . , Ninth expenses of management were only 9*5 ..,■.' per cent, of tlio total receipts. , , . i Tenth— cash surplus divided for the year ISB9 was £426,494, being at the rate of 41 - 5 por cent, ou the premiums received. _. • The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be summarised as under , ■ It has ; issued ! 141,907 policies, K assuring £49,417,717. It has paid to the representatives of deceased members over £4,000,000, in satisfaction of * death and maturßtl claims. _ : It has divided among the members cash bonuses aggregating over £4,000,000, yielding reversionary additions of over £8,000,000.
