UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LECTURES

TO TIIE EDITOR. Sir, You published this morning a letter from a student complaining that certain oi the University College lectures are now given in the daytime, and not in the evening as heretofore, and stating that" the Professorial Board appear to imagine that our University has been endowed solely for the benefit of those who can afford to give their whole time to study." That this charge is groundless may be gathered from the fact that four lectures on Latin, one on mathematics, two on chemistry, and two on geology are given after five o'clock, and that, for the special convenience of those employed during the day, the chemical and geological laboratories are kept open on certain days until nine p.m. Last year complaints were made in your paper and elsewhere that the lectures were given in the evening and not in the daytime, and the College Council, anxious to meet the wishes of the community, suggested that more day lectures should be given. This suggestion was adopted by the Board, and the new time-table is the result. — am, &c., Fred. D. Brown. University College, April 14, 1891.
