[FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] Ha m ilton, Tuesday. Tin? Temperance Hotel, with little more than the ground it stands 011 at Raglan, fronting the harbour, was sold to Mrs. Allen At a, meeting of the East Hamilton School Committee, it was unanimously agreed to vote for Mr. Peacock for the Education Board. A similar resolve has been made by the Kirikiriroa School Board. Extensive works are about to be undertalced 011 the Te Akau station, the other side of the Raglan harbour. Tenders will shortly be called for the falling of some 2SOO acres of bush. A large clearing was made last year, and the large tract of land in the hands of the company is being rapidly brought into productiveness. The grass, it is reported, has this year been most abundant, as "indeed the fat cattle sent to Ohaupo sales fully testify ; but made fit for the grazing of sheep this limestone country, as the bush gives place to grass, amply repays the investment. The ilaxmillof Messrs. Coates and Metcalfe is steadily at work, and turning out the regular amount of dressed flax, the proprietors having secured a very large area of flax in the district and keeping up a regular supply. At the end of last month they completed a ] contract of IRQ tons of dressed flax at £18 per ton. Flax, however, has since dropped, but regardless of the present state of the market they are working away till a rise, as it must do, comes. Oiiaupo, Tuesday. Mr. J. McNicol has nearly 14,000 sheep entered for sale already for his third.sheep fair of the season, to be held here on the 27th instant. • His many friends will be glad to hear that Mr. flimgerford Roche has returned from Auckland, where he had been to have his eye—pierced with the prickle of a furze bush attended to. has been assured that his sigh*; will be permanently restored in a few months.
