From Newcastle advices we learn that the brigantine Camille, 221 tons, is loading with coal for this port. Yesterday the s.s. Omapere, finished discharging her coal into the warships and the Union S.S. Co.'a hulk, and in the afternoon left direct for Westport. The Shaw Savill and Albion Co.'s barque Margaret Galbraith, 841 tons, left London with general merchandise for this port on February 28th. This is probably the last of the sailing vessels that will be dispatched from London for this colony, for some time at least, as both the Shaw Savill and New Zealand Shipping Company purpose now to carry out the London-New Zealand cargo trade with their large new steamers. Yesterday the schooner Kenilworth went round to Goldie's mills, Mechanics' Bay, to load up with timber for Australia. Having completed the discharge of her Newcastle coal at the Hobson-street Wharf, the schooner Three Cheers was floated into dock yesterday, for a cleaning and overhaul. She will shortly load at one of the East Coast ports with sawn timber for Sydney. • Messrs. Donald and Edenborough have chartered the schooner Clansman for a trading trip to the Hervey Group, and expect to dispatch her with a mixed cargo by the end of this week. _ In preparation for her cruise to the Tongan Group, "the sohooner Olive was yesterday placed on the hard for cleaning. The barquentine Jessie, now putting out her coal at the Hobson-street Wharf, has been fixed to load kauri at Mercury Bay for Sydney. On February 27, Messrs. William Denny and Brothers, Dumbarton, launched a steel screw steamship of about 1500 tons gross register for the Union Steamship Company of Mew Zealand (Limited).' This vessel, the Ovalau, intended for the Fiji service, has already been described in the Herald. About 5 a.m. yesterday the s.s. Manapouri, Captain T. Logan, arrived from Sydney with a good number of passengers and general cargo. The purser, Mr. Guv, reports that she sailed from the New Zealand Wharf,

Margaret-street, Sydney, on the 9th instant, at 5.20 p.m., and cleared Port Jackson Hearts at 6.5 p.m. The Three Kings were abeam at 8.30; a.m. on the 13th instant; and the steamer had light northerly winds and fine weather throughout the voyage. The Manapouri passed the s.s. Norkoowa at 7 p.m. on the 12th instant, bound from Newcastle to Auckland.

Last evening, at 5.30 o'clock, the h.b. Tarawera left port for Sydney. She had a large number of passengers and general cargo. During yesterday several, of the warships were busily placing on board a large supply of stores brought over by the s.s. Manapouri from the naval depot at Sydney. Telegraphic advices from the South announce the sailing on Monday night from Oamaru,_of the Sydney-owned steamer Industry, 1790 tons, with a large cargo of wheat and other grain for this port. Since our last advices published on March 28 the following persons have booked passages at London tor Now Zealand ports :— Per R.M.s. Britannia, sailed March 0: For Dunedin, Mr. R. F. Rosjerson; for Auckland. Messrs. T. Cook, J. Harrison ; for Lyttelton, Miss Campbell; for Wellington, Miss Johnson, Mrs. Tilly, Mr. T. T. Endie. Per R.M.s. Ornba, sailed March 13: For Wellington : Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Peers, Messrs. W. L. and A. P. Buller : for Port Chalmers, Mr. J. C. McLaren. Per R.M.s. Massilia, sailed March 19 : For Lyttelton, Miss Campbell; for Napier, Mr. and Miss Avisou. _ A proposal is on foot for some of tho Tyser lino of steamers trading to the colonies to call at the -Falkland Islands on their return voyage, and there ship frozen mutton for the United Kingdom. It is probable that the s.s. Victoria, which is now on her way to Napier, will bo the first steamer to try the new loading place. The experiment inaugurated last year by the despatch of the steamers Prodano and Karlsruhe from New York to Australia direct is not to be abandoned, for advices have just been received in Sydney stating that Messrs. R. W. Cameron and Co. have chartered the steamship Strathdon to load at New York for Sydney in May and June. The vessel is almost new, being a steel screw steamer of 21343 tons gross register, 300 feet long, 41 feet beam, and 19 feet 6 inches depth of hold.

A LARGE COAL-STEAMER. Last night tho steamer Norkoowa, a wellknown Melbourne collier, which had been chartered to bring down a supply of coals from Newcastle for tho Auckland Gas Company, arrived outside the harbour, anchoring shortly after dark off the Rangitoto reef. Hero she was visited by Pilot Sainty, who will bring her into port at daylight. The Norkoowa left Newcastle on Tuesday evening, 7th inst., and had light easterly weather on the passage across. She is a thorough collier, without any pretensions to fine lines or passenger accommodation. She is of 1543 tons gross register, and engined up to '250 h.p. nominal, with a speed of about nine knots. She was huilt at Hawdon, England, in ISSo, and is owned by Mr. J. Mcllwraith, of Melbourne. The Norkoowa is consigned to the Union S.S. Co. on her inward trip, and will, when discharged, load up with timber on behalf of the Kauri Timber Compauy. She is expected to take a large freighting. and will probably stow away over a million feet of kauri.

PORT OF ONEHUNGA.
