THE ORLANDO'S "AT HOME."

YnSTEßDAvaffcornoon a fashionable gathering took placo on board H.M.s. Orlando, when Admiral Lord Charlos Scott, Captain C. J. Barlow, and the officers, were "At Home," and received about 400 guests. For the enjoyment of these all available provision had boon made. The vessel's spacious docks 'were enclosed with canvas, "and decked with bright flags, while comfortable lounges were prepared in all the numerous nooks. Dancing was the chief amusement, and the ship's excellent band provided splendid music for a well-chosen programme'of a dozen dances. All kinds of electrical apparatus were on view, and the results of experiments by many unwary ones, caused great merriment. Arifleprallerv was arranged, and to this the ladies flocked in numbers, while one and all profited by the opportunity to inspect.the giant warship and examine with minuteness the numerous dread machines of war on board. The officers of the Orlando were very attentive to their guests, and being ably assisted by their confreres from the other British warships, as well as by a number of those from the Austrian cruiser Saida, the festivity was never- allowed to flag for an instant. The refreshments were laid out on the main dock, and were as unlimited in quantity as excellent in quality, while a cosy little corner had been thoughtfully set aside for those of the sterner sex who chose to indulge in a cigar. The majority of the guests went off to the Orlando in the ferry steamer Britannia. His Excellency the Governor and the Countess of Onslow, who were accompanied by Lady Cnarles Scott and Miss Gardiner, were conveyed to the warship in the Admiral's steam launch.
