THE ROTORUA TOURIST TRAFFIC.

LARGE INCREASE. [BY TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] Rotorua, Friday,. The returns just collected by Mr. Malfroy shows the number of visitors for the year ending March 31 to have been 2590, being an increase of about 800 over the preceding year's returns. The value of tho tourist traffic to the colony must be very great, with tho certainty of increasing annually. Now supposing that one-half of the above numberand that is a low estimate — are from foreign countries, and that they spend on an average £20 each in travelling and hotel expenses, hero is a clear distribution of about £26,000 foreign capital, a lanre amount of which the Government receive in the shape of railway fares and customs duties on goods. Surely this yearly recurring crop of the district, representing in value an exportation of nearly 200,000 bushels of wheat, is worth cultivating, and it is to bo hoped tho Government will see their way to push on the completion of the railway, and by other means promote this source of rovenue to the colony.
