New Zealand Herald Office, Friday evening. The Customs duties to-day amounted to £2205 8s lid. There was a crowded attendance at Messrs. Samuel Vailo and Son's land auction mart to-day, where several first-class properties were submitted for competition. After some spirited bidding, the following lots were sold Mrs. Sharpies' house and grounds, Mount Roskill Road, £780; block of shops in Karangahape Road, £1200; the Queenstreet property was withdrawn at £5500, the Fort-street warehouse at £1700, and tho residence in JLvyber Pass Road at £3000.

Messrs. Arthur and Huddle's Weekly Report.—The week has been a busy one in all departments. Produce of all descriptions has come forward in large quantities. In potatoes there has been a fair demand for good samples at from £3 to £3 10.«, and considerable quantities have been cleared at these figures ; a few lines of Southern have been cleared under the hammer at from £2 to £2 ss, the quality being inferior. Few really firstclass onions entered ; these are worth from £0 to £0 6s; second-class have sold at from £2 to £6. Cheese remains at about last weok's quotations, with a limited demand. Bacon and hams : Only Southern to hand ; good local cure wanted. Fresh butter in good demand at from Gd to 7d. Fresh eggs short of demand at Is Od. Garden vegetables were entered largely for Friday's sale, and met with good sale. Grain has been quiet during the week. Fowl wheat is much wanted. Sharps scarce. Fruit has been in good supnly with little alteration ill prices. The poultry and pig pens were well tilled for Friday's market, average prices being better than last week. We have held five sales by auction since hist report: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, poultry, produce, and fruit at the mart; all well attended, particularly Friday's sale. On Wednesday The Pah Estate and th* unsold lots in Surrey Hills Estate were offered for sale by order of the Registrar of the Supreme Court; both properties were bought in by the mortgagee. A nice little farm near Henderson was also offered, but did not realise the reserve. Our sale of furniture at the residence of the late Mr. K. E. Bilbrough lasted two days, and was a most successful sale throughout. The attendance was very large, bidding unusually brisk, and splendid prices were obtained. In potatoes, the supply of inferior quality is very large, which seriously affects values of prime quality, of which, however, the supply is limited. We quote : £3 to £3 10.-* per ton, for firstclass, s.i.; inferior, at an average of about £2 to £2 ss. We see no prospect of improvement, and can only reiterate our remarks of last week. We are authoritatively informed that Oamarus have been sold for forward delivery, at £2 12s, c.i f. Onions of excellent quality are in demand for shipment, at £5 to £6 ss. We have orders still unsatisfied, at an average of £5 10s ; loc.il growth are not keeping so well as usual, owing entirely to the humid season. Bacon : Local continues scarce, we have sold small lines at 4d to 6d ; hams, 5d to 7d ; for Canterbury the demand continues good— equal numbers. Cjd to 7.1 ; sides, (JJd to OJd ; hams, SJd to SJd, wholesale. Maize: Several-coast shipments cleared, at 2s lOd; 3s, in small quantities. Fowl wheat is in temporarily great demand, at 3s 2d to 3s 4d—average price during the week, Ss 3d, sacks weighed in. Oati are plentiful, and of indifferent quality, market quiet— prices. Is Od to Is lOd, for local; bright Southern, Is lid to 2s 2d. Butter, although in fair supply, has realised better prices : 6Jd to Sid. for fresh; salt, at 3dio4jd. Eggs are scarce, is Sd per dozen being average rates. Fruit has been in good supply, particularly in apples, which show no improvement in value. Detail prices will be found later. week ending April 11.—Business during the week fairly a tive, and good quantity of general produce has been quitted. In farm produce there is but little change in ralues, but dairy produce shows a general improvement in values. The supplies all round have been large, and auction sales have been largely attended, with good competition. Potatoes still continue plentiful. Prime samples, well sorted and free from second growth, £3 to £3 10s ; other kinds difficult to work off at 30s to 45s per ton. Good kidney seed for early planting is enquired for. Onions are plentiful. Owing to there being no shipping demand this week, there are no sales of importance to quote, the local demand being small at jd to Jd ; picklers, |d ; garlic, 2<t; wheat has been more plentiful at 3s 3d to 3s (A ; maize, 2. lOd to 8s who! sale, and 3s 3d retail.
