AUCKLAND PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION.

The Photographic Exhibition, which has steadily increased in popularity since its opening, was closed last night, when the lecture-room and museum were crowded by eager and interested visitors. The limelight entertainment has' been the most attractive feature in the exhibition, and immediately after opening the best seats were secured and held with patience. Mr. J. R. Hanna presided at the lantern, and introduced a series of excellent photographs by Captain Sinclair, ' of the Tarawera, showing the sublime scenery of the Southern Sounds, as seen during the annual excursions of that favourite steamer. These were followed by a series of fifty beautiful photographs of the Paris Exhibition, kindly lent for the occasion by Mrs. Broomhall, the pictures being introduced and explained ny Mr. Hanna. Mr. Josiah Martin desired to express the grateful thanks of the Photographic Club to the Council of the Institute for the kind permission to hold the Exhibition in the Museum, free of all charge to the public. Ho trusted that the combination of the amateur and professional would be of great benefit to all exhibitors, and that this social reunion would encourage and assist the further development of photography in Auckland. Mr. Martin expressed the sorrow felt by all members of the club in the untimely death of their esteemed friend and late secretary, Mr. Francis* It was gratifying to know that his place had been so ably filled lay Messrs. Carson and Ashley Hunter, to whose untiring exertion with Messrs. Boulton and Caldwell the success of the exhibition was in such great measure due. The committee also desire to thank Mr. W. Morton for his lime-light lantern and his attendance and attention each evening. The audience having testified by acclamation their approval of the. votes of thanks, gradually dispersed, expressing unanimously their pleasure and enjoyment.
