FOUND DEAD IN BED.

[from our own correspondent.] Thames, Monday. An old mail about 70 years of age, named Roto, a native of East India, was found dead in his whare, about two miles below Tararu, by Messrs. F. McCormick and R. Dunstan,of Puru, early this morning. The deceased had been living by himself on tho coast for some years past, and about 18 months ago was found in his whare in such a destitute and feeble condition by Sergeant Gillies that lie was removed to the Thames Hospital for medical treatment. He was an inmate of tho institution for some considerable time, and after his discharge, Sergeant Gillies brought his destitute condition under the notice of the Charitable Aid Board, since which time he had been the recipient of relief, the rations having been conveyed to him by Mr. McCormick, who passed Roto's whare every day. On these occasions Mr. McCormick had always been in the habit of leaving the rations outside the door, and calling out to Roto, informing him of his arrival. He always received an answer to his will until Saturday morning, when he obtained no response. The same thing occurred this morning, consequently ho informed Mr. Dunstan, who Happened to bo in the vicinity at the time, of tho circumstances, and the two forced open the door and entered the whare, when they found the old man lying dead in bed. The police were today occupied in making enquiries, and it is probable an inquest will be held tomorrow.
