Yesterday the locally owned schooner Flcetwing arrived at Whangarei from Oainu.ru with a full cargo of flour for Messrs. Whitelaw and Co., of Puhipuhi. The Union S.S. Co. are in receipt of cable advices to the effect that the R.M.s. Mariposa left San Francisco on April 3rd, one day behind her contract. date. She is consequently due at this port on Friday, the 24th inst., but it is not improbable that she will reach Auckland on the 23rd, and thus be able to leave for Sydney according to the date fixed on her time-table. The departure of the 8.8. Southern Cross for East Coast ports and Wellington has been postponed till Wednesday. At the Customs yesterday the barque Al-. cestis. Captain Le Prevost, cleared for Howland Island. The vessel took a quantity of timber and some stores, as well as a lifeboat for use at Messrs. Arundel and Co.'s station at the guano depot. She is to load back guano for a New Zealand port. To-day the s.s. Waihora will arrive from the South, probably about noon. Instead of going on to Sydney she will proceed to Russell to coal,-and then return via this port to the South, she being th« first vessel of the Union S.S. Co.'s fortnightly service, which will continue during the winter instead of the weekly runs to Australia as heretofore. Yesterday Messrs. Donald and Edenborough's island steamer Little Agnes took her departure for her regular places of call at Norfolk Island and Noumea with several passengers and a full cargo of produce and sundries. , Last evening the Northern S.S. 00. s steamers Clansman and lona left, each with full cargo, for their respective ports of Russell and Kuaotunu. . . t The brigantine Oamaru, Captain Richards, was berthed at the No. 2 Jetty, anil is there putting out her cargo of salt from Edithburg (S-A.) The three-masted schooner, Ocean Ranger, •which is coming down front Newcastle to Onehunga with a cargo of coal for Messrs. C. 1?. James and Co., is to load at the Manukau Timber Company's Mills with kauri back to an Australian port. At the Customs yesterday the brigantine Prosperity was entered out for Sydney, via Whangaroa, to fill up with timber at the itter port. The vessel has had a thorough cleaning and overhaul during her stay in port. . . , . Yesterday the s.s. Wainui was taking in cargo for Tonga and Samoa, whither she sails to-morrow. Last evening Mr. G. Niccol launched at Devonport a new schooner of 50 tons, which he has just completed to the order of some Tongan chiefs at Vavau. The vessel is a very staunchly-built little craft of handsome lines, which promise her a good turn of speed, but she is designed more for passenger than for cargo carrying. The vessel was christened with a portentous polysyllabic native name chosen by her Tongan owners. Captain R. Sop with will, as soon as the craft is rigged, take her down to Vavau. The repairs to the ship Leading Wind are being executed with great smartness and all completeness by Mr. T. H. Brown, and the vessel is expected to be in a seaworthy condition by the end of this week. She will probably be docked to-day to have her bottom sighted and cleaned. Last night the barque Alcestis came .out of dock, after receiving a cleaning. She' will Bail for Howland Island early this morning. About 8 p.m. yesterday the s.s. Southern Cross arrived from the East Coast and Wellington with a general cargo. She left Wellington on the Ist instant, and called at Napier on the 3rd. Gisborne on the 4th, and 'worked the smaller bays on the sth, arriving as above.
