THE TELEPHONE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— is a public grievance which I am sure a great many business people will be glad to see you deal with in the Herald. The telephone, instead of being a convenience is. becoming a positive nuisance. People have to wait several minutes before getting a reply from the central office, and sometimes after waitiug, get no reply at all. Considering the expense of the telephone to the public, the office ought to be more efficiently served. When the lady attendant is not in the office, replies in the central cannot be depended on. I hope Mr. J. M. Shera will bring this matter before the Chief o the Department.—l am, etc., Citizen.
