DEATH OF HON. W. REEVES.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION'.} Christohukoii, Saturday. Tiik Hon. W. Reeves died on Saturday evening. His death was unexpected. Ho underwent an operation in lithotomy on Monday last, and seemed progressing very well till Friday night, when he suffered a relapse. Mr. Reaves joined Mr. Crosby Ward in Lyttelton thirty years ago, and succeeded Mr. Ward as momber of Parliament for Avon in 1867. He represented the Selwyn district from 1871 to 1876, and was Resident Minister for the Middle Island under the Fox-Vogel Government of 1871. He was called to the Uppor House in 1881. He was one of the first directors of the Now Zealand Shipping Company, and was chairman in 1885. He was a director of the Union Insurance Company at the time of his death, and also a director of the Mutual Lifo Association of Australia for the South Island. He was a member of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College. He took a keen interest in sport, and was steward of the Canterbury Jockey Club. He was also President of the Christchurch Society.
