WALKATO FARMERS CLUB.

MEETING OF THE HAMILTON BRANCH. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Thursday. Tiie adjourned annual meeting of the Hamilton branch of the Waikato Farmers' Club was held this morning. Present: The President (Mr. A. Primrose), in the chair, and Messrs. G. 15. Clarke, Edgecumbe, Buttle, Yon Stunner, J. J. Barugh, Parr, Gwynne, Barton, Sare, Swarbriek, and Dyer. Messrs. Primrose anil Banish were re-elected president and vice-president respectively, Mr. C. J. W. Barton secretary and treasurer, and Messrs. Runciman, Buttle, J. Barugh, jun., Swarbriek, and Shepherd a committee. It was resolved that in future the meetings be held monthly at half-past seven in. on the day of the full moon. The question of holding an agricultural show in Waikato was fully discussed. Mr. G. E. Clarke, president of the Cambridge branch, said that the matter had been threshed out at a meeting of the Cambridge branch a year ago, and the result arrived at was that such show should not be held before the year 1892. He did not himself think that Waikato was in a state to hold an agricultural show earlier. Ac that meeting, however, it was resolved to hold a horse show in September, 1891, and that had been publicly notified. He had consulted with many of the leading members of the Cambridge branch of the club when at the show at Auckland, and they were all of-'opin-ion that from what they saw of the snow there, there was an immense amount of trouble and labour in carrying it out with very incommensurate results, and that it was scarcely worthwhile for -Waikato to enter into such an undertaking for some time. He was of opinion that the Waikato farmers and the Waikato public were not educated up to the work by a long chalk yet. When we had a show it must be a good one, worthy of the district as a whole, and the place chosen for it to be held at must be the most suitable for the purpose, both for the exhibition and for the general public, where, in fact it could be most easily got at. It made no difference to the farmers where the show was held, but the public and others needed educating up to this point. He had thought that the local jealousy between townships had died out, but found it worse than ever, In getting up the horse show for September at. Cambridge their various partisans had even _ made it a question as to which public house it should be held nearest to. Mr.; Dyer thought it was desirable to fix the year, date, and place, and people would educate themselves up to it. Mr. Sare thought it would be a good thing if the Waikato Show could be held yearly in conjunction with the Auckland Agricultural Show, one. year in Auckland and the next year in Waikato. Mr. Clarke said that when the matter of a show was first considered, the Auckland committee were quite willing to enter into such an arrangement. The report, of the Show Committee was then read and adopted, recommending that the Hamilton Committee should confer with the Cambridge Committee concerning the, holding of an agricultural show. Mr. Clarke said Hamilton was the only place such a show'could be held at, and that the Hamilton people* must make up their ■ minds to throw • a large amount of energy into the carrying of it out. Votes of thanks to the retiring officers, including the auditor, Mr. G. Edgecumbe, brought the proceedings to a close..
