THE RECALL OF THE ITALIAN

CONGRESS CONVENED. Press Associatum.—BUe.tric Telegraph.-* Rome, April 1. Bakon de Fava was recalled because King Humbert considers the United States ought to at once take full responsibility for the murder of Italian subjects. This the American Government holds to.be constitutionally impossible. 'v ' , Washington, April I. Congress has been summoned to meet immediately, Italy's action was unexpected. and is regarded as hasty and ill-advised. Reports which have been published to the effect that eighteen American citizens have been imprisoned in Florence are creating excitement in the States. There is intense excitement here over the recall of Baron do Fava, Italian I Minister to the United States. Washington, April 2. The withdrawal of the Italian Minister Continues to create excitement here,, and the United States Minister at Reme, acting under instructions from his Government has requested the Italian Government to exercise patience in the matter, and has indicated to it the difficulty the Government of the United States encounters in arranging matters owing to Louisiana State rights. In discussing the withdrawal the American press declare _ that Signor Rudini, the Italian Premier, is merely indulging in a little dramatic diplomacy, and that, no real fear of war breaking out between the two countries need be felt in America. The rumour that a number of American visitors at Florence had been arrested is not correct. Five of the Italians who were charged .with being concerned in the murder of Detective Hennessy have been released on nominal bail by the authorities in Louisiana, and it is understood that those released were never placed on trial.
