The usual meeting of the Auckland branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, was held yesterday afternoon at the Y.M.C.A. Mrs. Holloway, who recently attended the Christchurch convention of the Union as the Auckland delegate, gave an account of the proceedings of the Convention, and the resolutions passed. The Convention will meet next year in Auckland, the Auckland branch having given an invitation, which has been accepted. The different branches of the Union have a membership as follows :—Auckland, 62; Napier, 47 ; Wellington, 41; Nelson, 17; Christchurch, 50; Dunedin, 59; Ashburton, 27 : Invercargili, 42; Oamaru,s ; Timaru, 10; Rangiora, 15 ; Lyttelton, 24; Kaiapoi, 57; Port Chalmers, 40 } Northeast Valley. 15; West Taieri, 18 ; Mosgiel, 21 : total, 533. Young Women's Christian Temperance Union : Mosgiel, 21; Oamaru, 28 ; West Taieri, 20 ; Port Chalmers, 22 : total, 91. ', The clothes of John Bourke, Town Clerk of Gisborne, were found at the end of the breakwater at eight o'clock yesterday morning. Bourke went to the breakwater to bathe at six o'clock, and has evidently been drowned. There is no sign of the body.
